Kathmandu, Baitadi triumph
Kathmandu, November 6:
Region No 3 (Kathmandu) defeated Region No 1 (Biratnagar) by six wickets and Region No 6 (Baitadi) beat Region No 4 (Bhairahawa) by two wickets in the Under-17 National Cricket Tournament here today.
At TU Stadium, Biratnagar were bowled out for 124 runs in 39.4 overs and Kathmandu overcame the target losing four wickets in 28 overs. At the Pulchowk Engineering Campus, Bhairahawa got all out for 184 runs in 39.4 overs and Baitadi reached 186-8 in 34.5 overs.
Biratnagar were in early trouble after losing openers Somesh Yadav (5) and Aditya Shrestha (1) at just 15 runs on the board. Kundan Singh top-scored for Biratnagar with 23, while Deepak Sharma (11), Anup Karki (17) and Aman Thapa (not out 14) contributed in double figures. Rochak Bhatta took 4-21 off eight overs, while skipper Prithu Baskota pocketed 3-11 off 5.4 overs for Kathmandu.
In reply, Ayush Rana scored an unbeaten half century as Kathmandu reached 128-4 with 12 overs remaining. Man of the match Rana hit four fours in his 83-ball knock. Skipper Baskota scored 23 off 32 balls that included four boundaries. Ujjwol Thapa remained unbeaten on 12.
In the other match, Nischal Chaudhary top-scored for Bhairahawa with 32 off 36 balls that included four fours and a six. Region Gurung scored run-a-ball 24, while Nirmal Thapa scored 32-ball 18.
Krishna Sen hit two fours in his 28-ball 17, while Krishna Karki and Sujan Harijan contributed 14 and 13 runs respectively.
For Baitadi, Binod Lama took 3-23 off five overs and was ably supported by Sunil Tamang (3-32) and Pradeep Ayree (2-24).
In reply, Baitadi overcame the target riding on man of the match Pradeep Ayree’s half century. Ayree hit five fours and two sixes in his 36-ball 51. Bhuwan Karki remained unbeaten on 25 off 40 balls including three boundaries, while Niranjan Rawal scored 26-ball 17.
For Bhairahawa, Hemanta Acharya and Krishna Sen took two wickets each.
