KU defend team championship title

Kathmandu, July 15

Defending champions Kathmandu University claimed the team championship of the second PM Cup University Games here at the National Sports Council covered hall today.

KU won four gold, one silver and two bronze medals to finish first in the Games. Tribhuvan University bagged three each gold and silver medals as well as four bronze to win the second position, while Pokhara University claimed two each gold and silver and three bronze to finish third.

On Saturday, Tribhuvan University won the men’s volleyball section gold medal defeating Far-western University in straight sets of 25-19, 25-21, 25-15. Mid-western University defeated Kathmandu University 25-16, 25-19, 25-21 to claim third position.

The Games featured table tennis, volleyball and badminton events and KU won all four gold medals in table tennis events to win the team championship. A total of eight universities took part in the men’s volleyball event, while nine universities competed in men’s badminton and table tennis. Similarly, seven universities participated in the women’s badminton and table tennis.

Meanwhile, NSC Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista, NSC Member and tournament coordinator Arabind Srivastav and NSC Member Ganga Bahadur Thapa among others handed over the prizes.
