KCC Cup from Monday
Kathmandu, March 14:
Kantipur City College (KCC) is organising the Wai Wai fifth KCC Running Trophy Nationwide Inter-college Cricket Tournament at the Birendra Sainik Mahavidyalaya from March 14.
A total of 14 teams, including two from the hosts, have confirmed their participation and the organisers are expecting at least two more teams, said event coordinator Anuj Raj Chhetri.
Unlike previous editions, the KCC have been able to attract a number of sponsors this time around, with Chaudhary Group’s Wai Wai being the main sponsor. ECS Magazine is the co-sponsor of the event supported by Rio and Reebok. Siddiquee Readymade Centre has agreed to sponsor the KCC teams.
The participating teams will be divided into two groups and the matches will be of 20-over-a-side except for the semi-finals and final, which will be of 35 overs.
Apart from the hosts, defending champions and three-time winners Himalayan White House College, Capital College and research Centre, Asian College for Advanced Studies, Classic College International, Kathford International College, Khwopa Engineering College, Kathmandu Engineering College, Lord Buddha Academy and Foundation, British Gurkha College and Nepal Engineering College are the teams from Kathmandu who have registered their names.
Purbanchal University School of Engineering & Technology of Biratnagar and Shanti Academy of Chitwan are the teams from outside the valley. Apart from the trophy and medals, the winners will also receive cash prize, but according to the organisers the amount is yet to be fixed. “We are in talks with sponsors and we are not in a position to announce the amount,” said Chhetri.
The man of the match in every game will receive Rs 500, while the best batsman and the bowler will get Rs 1,000 each.
The man of the series will be awarded with Reebok cricket kits worth Rs 13,393.
Thanking the sponsors and well-wishers of KCC and cricket, prof Rama Krishna Regmee, chairman of School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Kantipur City College, said the event “is a good platform for the youths to show their skills.”
