KCC Running Trophy from today

KATHMANDU: Kantipur City College (KCC) is organising the KIST Bank sixth KCC Running Trophy Nationwide Inter-college Cricket Tournament here from Wednesday.

A total of 12 teams are participating in the league-cum-knock out tournament. The teams are divided into four pools of three teams each with top two teams from each group to make it to the quarter-finals, informed the organisers at a press meet today,

The organisers have made it an open event from this edition. “Any player, whether he be a national player or age-group player, can take part in the tournament,” said Anuj Raut Chhetri, coordinator of the event. “The teams can also hire the players who are not affiliated with any college,” he added.

Classic College International, Capital College and Research Centre and Himalayan Institute of Science and Technology are in Group A, while the hosts KCC ‘Red’, Lord Buddha Education Foundation and Purbanchal University School of Engineering and technology are in Group B.

The Group C includes Golden Gate Education Network, KCC ‘Blue’ and College of Information Technology and Engineering and the Group D comprises of Raj Shree College of Janakpur, Triton College and National College of Business Studies. On Wednesday, CCI will take on HIST and GGEN will play against CIT.

Out of the total budget of Rs 700,000, the top two teams will receive Rs 25,000 and Rs 10,000. The man of the series will be awarded with Rs 5,000, while the best batsman and bowler will get Rs 3,000 each. The man of the match will be awarded with Rs 500.

Apart from the cash prizes, the main sponsors, KIST Bank, will provide free account facility and debit cards while winner and runner up team members along with the individual award winners will get free six-month subscription of a national daily.
