KEC beat KU to bag title

Kathmandu Engineering College (KEC) defeated Kathmandu University (KU) by 36 runs and bagged the KEC Running Trophy Inter-technical College Cricket Tournament here at Laboratory School ground today.

The winners, who beat hosts Kantipur Engineering College ‘blue’ and ACEM in previous matches, made it to the Super League, topping Group A. Elected to bat first after winning the toss, KEC accumulated 166 runs losing six wickets in 30 overs. Mohit Rijal, who top-scored with 49 off 55 balls, hit seven hits to the fence and a six. Sanil Raut contributed 18 runs with a boundary and a six; and Sagun Khadka was unbeaten on 18 runs.

For KU, Sanjay Thapa claimed two wickets in six overs. In reply, KU failed to overcome the target and were bowled out for 130 runs in 25.1 overs. Sunil Shrestha scored 60 runs while Anuj Raut contributed 15. For KEC Rocky Shrestha, Mohit Rijal and Sanjay Neupane took four, three and two wickets respectively. On Tuesday, the final day of the tournament, Kantipur Engineering College ‘blue’ will vie for the second place with Kathmandu University at the same venue.
