Keshari sets new national record
KATHMANDU: Keshari Chaudhary set a new national record in the women's triple jump at the 18th Asian Athletics Championships in Guangzhou, China today.
Held at the Guangdong Olympic Stadium, Keshari crashed out of the final but bettered her own national record with a leap of of 11.23 metres. Her previous best mark was 11.30 metres set during the fifth National Games in April.
Keshari ended in 13th position with only one valid jump which was a new national record. On Tuesday, she participated in the 100m but was eliminated from the heats.
Meanwhile, middle distance runner Hari Kumar Rimal finished bottom of the race in the men's 1500m final. Rimal, timed 4:03.85 seconds to complete the race and even failed to improve on his personal best of 3:50.76 seconds, which he set a day before in the heats.
Earlier on Tuesday night, Rimal also suffered in the 5000m after he ended on 11th position in the 13-man event. Rimal completed the race in 14:38.13 seconds leaving two athletes from Mongolia behind. Armyman Rimal was scheduled to compete in the 3000m steeple chase but opted and competed only in the 5000m.
Nepal are now left to participate in the men's and women's 200m races. Pramila Rijal and Tilak Ram Mahato will compete in the event on Thursday. Both of the athletes failed to improve on their personal bests while competing in the women's 400m and men's 100m races respectively.
