NEPALGUNJ, DECEMBER 10

Khadak Bahadur Khadka won gold medal in the eighth Dhara Nepalgunj Marathon as Tribhuvan Army Club athletes dominated the event here today.

Khadka clocked two hours, 20 minutes and 28 seconds to finish first in the AIMS-certified race which used electronic timing chips.

Khadka, who had finished fourth in the previous edition won by Kiran Singh Bogati, won gold in his seventh appearance and earned Rs 150,000.

Narendra Rawat came second in 2:22:29, while fellow TAC athlete Mohan Dev Joshi was third n 2:24:36. Rawat received Rs 60,000 and Joshi got Rs 30,000. Kamal Raj Giri, Rewat Dahal, Yamdev Rai, Bal Bahadur Sunar and Bikash Yadav claimed fourth to eighth positions respectively.

Santoshi Shrestha of Bagmati Province won the women's half marathon gold medal. The 13th South Asian Games 10,000m gold medal winner, Shrestha finished the 21km race in one hour, 16 minutes and 41 seconds.

The ninth National Games double gold medallist, Shrestha had also claimed the seventh edition title in Nepalgunj.

Anjali Chauhan came second in 1:25:15, while Anju Khadka was third in 1:36:44.

Top three athletes in half marathon got Rs 60,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively.

Apart from marathon, athletes in half marathon, men's 10km and women's 5km events also used electronic timing chips.

Mukesh Pal, Bhuvan Rana and Sunil Ramjali claimed top three positions in men's 10km race, while Rajpura Pachhai, Ram Maya Budha and Bimala Karki came first, second and third respectively in women's 5km event. Atul Godia won boys' 5km race and Neha Sapkota came first in girls' 3km event.

Yagya Bahadur Khatri, Mahesh Chaudhary and Deu Kumari Tharu won gold, silver and bronze medals in wheelchair race and received Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.

Jenisha Thapa came first in kids' runs. Likewise, Yogesh Malla, Dr Sandeep Gurung and Durga Gahatraj claimed top three spots respectively in corporate race.
