Kumar, Linda clinch Hyatt-Pilot Pen Open

Kumar Adhikari and Linda McDougal won the men’s singles and women’s singles titles at the Hyatt-Pilot Pen Open Tennis Championship here today. Krishna Ghale clinched the vetetrans’ singles trophy, while Shikhar Insurance won team (corporate) title.
Adhikari beat Sriram Magar 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 in men’s singles; McDougal defeated Priti Rizal 6-2, 6-4 in women’s singles; Krishna Ghale was leading 6-3 when Manoj Rana retired in veterans’ singles; and Shikhar Insurance outplayed Speedway Cargo 2-0 in corporate final.
In the men’s singles final, Adhikari dominated the first set before Magar bounced back in the second forcing the deciding set. The third and the final set was lively with both the players going neck-to-neck before Adhikari clinched a 7-2 win in the tie-breaker.
The women’s singles final was much of the one-sided affair with McDougal winning the first set with ease. Rizal showed some resistance in the second set but failed to match McDougal’s pace.
In corporate final, Bikash Rana of Shikhar Insurance registered an easy 8-3 victory over Raju Shrestha of Speedway Cargo to take a 1-0 lead. The pair of Kumar Adhikari and Chyamba Dhondup then sealed the victory for Shikhar Insurance with a 8-6 win over Jitendra Pariyar and Hari McDougal in the doubles.
The tournament was organised by Hyatt Regency Kathmandu in association with Pilot Pen. The Himalayan Times was the official media of the event that was managed by Lotus Entertainment.
