KATHMANDU, APRIL 30

Oman and Kuwait contested for the third place in the ongoing ACC Premier Cup on Sunday at the Kirtipur-based TU Cricket Ground.

The rain-affected game--in which super over could not be played due to wet outfield--produced no result following which on the basis of seeding Oman secured third place in the tournament.

Batting first, Kuwait had managed to post 130 runs losing all wickets in 31.3 overs. Chasing the target, Oman scored a quick-fire 41 runs in six overs, keeping all wickets intact before rain interrupted play.

Similarly, Jay Odedra of Oman scalped five wickets in his 5.3 overs while providing only14 runs that helped to restrict Kuwait to a low total. Bilal Khan too took two wickets in seven overs giving away 47 runs.

Although rain stopped at 3:00 pm, game could not be played on a water-lodged wicket and hence ended in no result.

After the match, Oman has qualified for the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup. Meanwhile, the two finalists, Nepal and UAE, have already earned berth in the ACC Emerging Cup.

Nepal and UAE will clash in the high stake encounter to lay claim for the ACC Premier Cup at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Stadium on Monday.

The winners of the ACC Premier Cup will qualify for the Asia Cup where they will be grouped with India and Pakistan in Group A. Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are in Group B of the event scheduled for September in Pakistan.
