Chandrakala Lamgade won the women's javelin throw gold medal with record distance of 47.6 metres in athletics under the Ninth National Games at the Pokhara Stadium today.
The Nepal Police Club athlete Lamgade broke the previous mark of 45.27 metres set by Laxmi Tharu in the 13th South Asian Games in Kathmandu in 2019.
Tharu came second with 45.56m and APF's Sima Kumari Tharu was third in 45.20m. Rohit Chaudhary of TAC won men's section gold with a distance of 64.25 metres, while APF duo Ramesh Pokhrel (55.43m) and Manoj Dagoura (53.39m) bagged silver and bronze respectively.
Santoshi Shrestha of Bagmati Province won the women's 5,000m gold in 17 minutes and 5.29 minutes. The 13th South Asian Games gold medal winner defeated two departmental athletes to finish first. Rajpura Pachhai of Nepal Police Club bagged silver in 17:12.05, while Tribhuvan Army Club's Purna Laxmi Neupane claimed bronze in 18:03.
Ram Prasad Tharu and Jivan Chaudhary of TAC claimed top two positions in men's 400m hurdles race. Tharu won gold in 53.53 seconds, while Chaudhary claimed silver in 53.89. Nir Pratap Mahato of Nepal APF Club bagged bronze in 53.92 seconds.
Som Bahadur Kumal of TAC and Phoolmati Rana of APF won 800m gold medals. Kumal completed the distance in one minute and 54.08 seconds, finishing ahead of NPC's Tej Bahadur Karki (1:55.08) and TAC's Sunil Sunar (1:55.52). Nepal Rana won women's section gold in two minutes and 27.36 seconds, while Olympian Saraswati Bhattarai of TAC came second in 2:27.50. Another TAC athlete Rekha Limbu was third in 2:30.48.
APF team of Nir Pratap Mahato, Aashish Chaudhary, Shivaraj Parki and Chandra Bahadur Pulami Magar won men's 4X100m relay gold in 42.44 metres, while TAC's Jeevan Chaudhary, Bibas Tharu, Yuvaraj BK and Dilli Bhandari won silver in 42.60. Lumbini team of Siman Pandey, Sujal Dangi, Roshan Tharu and Tulsiram Tharu came third in 44.38 seconds.
Olympian athlete Saraswati Chaudhary led TAC team to victory in 4X100m relay gold. The team of Chaudhary, who participated in 2016 Rio Olympic Games, Ramita Tharu, Jayarani Tharu and Nirmala Thapa finished first in 49.60 seconds. Gandaki team of Manisha Adhikari, Anisha Bhandari, Sabina Khatun Miya and Nisha Gharti came second in 52.75 seconds, while Bagmati's Rajina Dulal, Swagata Khaiju, Prakriti Suwal and Liujala Amatya finished third in 52.76.
