KATHMANDU: Lifters Prakash KC and Kamala Shrestha were knocked out from the first round of the fifth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan on Wednesday.

KC, who competed in the men’s 69kg weight category in Group B, lifted a total weight of 225kg that included 100kg in snatch and 125kg in clean and jerk. He finished fourth. Bangladesh’s Simul Kanti lifted a total weight of 259kg and finished first in the group to advance in the next round.

Similarly, Shrestha, who competed in the women’s 58kg event, lifted 148kg — 68kg in snatch and 80kg in clean and jerk. In kuras, Ashmita Chhantyal faced a 4-1 defeat against Rakima of Uzbekistan in the women’s 68kg semi-final match.
