Linette ousts Diyas
TOKYO: Poland’s Magda Linette dumped Kazakhstan’s Zarina Diyas out of the Japan Women’s Open on Thursday as seeds continued to tumble at the rain-hit event. Linette completed an upset 6-2, 7-5 victory over her second-seeded opponent to reach the quarter-finals of the $250,000 hardcourt tournament on Tokyo Bay.
Linette’s win leaves American Madison Brengle as the highest-ranked player, although the world No 42 faces a tricky test in the last eight on Friday against Croatia’s Ajla Tomljanovic.
