Liverpool to play Toulouse

Nyon, August 3:

Five-time European champion Liverpool will play Toulouse for a place in the Champions League.

Liverpool, who lost last season’s final to AC Milan, were pitched against the French side in Friday’s draw for the third qualifying round at UEFA’s headquarters. Arsenal also got a tough match when they were drawn against Sparta Prague.

Four-time champions Ajax will meet the winner of the second qualifying round meeting between Slavia Prague and Slovakian champion Zilina.

UEFA Cup holder Sevilla will play AEK Athens, and Valencia will play Debrecen or Elfsborg. Friday’s draw featured teams that finished outside the top placings in Europe’s leagues and champions of less successful nations.

The 16 third-round qualifying matches will be played over two legs on August 14-15 and August 28-29. The winners will enter the draw for the lucrative group stage on August 30.
