Army, police win

KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan Army Club defeated Solu Jantarkhani-Kathmandu Magar Samaj 25-10, 25-19, 25-17 in the Sky Overseas Cup volleyball tournament, which has been organised by Dhorpatan Sports Training Club. In the other match, Mahendra Police Club beat Blue Moon Club 25-21, 25-10, 25-12. Chhabilal Oli of TAC and Prem Bahadur Bhandari of MPC won the man of the match awards. On Tuesday, it’s: Ramechhap District Volleyball Association vs Lahure Tole of Maijubahal and Gyanendra APF vs Kathmandu Metropolitan City. — HNS

HIMS basketball

KATHMANDU: Gyanodya School defeated Wilson Academy 51-47 in the fifth-day match at the HIMS Inaugural Inter-school Basketball Tournament here today. Chand Uddin Sheikh of Gyanodaya top-scored in the match with 17 points, while Ranjit Giri netted 14 points for Wilson. In other matches, Thupten Dorjee scored 12 points as HIMS defeated Namgyal HS School 26-21; and Pramaya Shakya scored 10 points as Shuvatara School downed St Xavier’s

Inter-school TT

KATHMANDU: Shridiwa International School is organising the first Shridiwa Inter-school Table Tennis Tournament 2005 from June 16-18. In all, 600 students from 21 schools of the valley are expected to take part in the tournament, which features competitions in eight different categories — men’s team, men’s singles, men’s junior singles, boys singles, ladies team, ladies singles, ladies junior singles, and ladies girls singles. According to a release issued by the school today, the organisers have formed a main organising committee under the chairmanship of principal Prabin Moktan, while senior TT coach Brijendra Hamal has been named the in charge of jury committee. — HNS

Inter-school athletics

KATHMANDU: Athletics Development Club, Nepal is organising the Inter-school Athletics Competition from July 5-6 at Dasharath Stadium, to mark the 59th birthday of King Gyanendra.

According to the club, the athletes will take part in the 100m, 400m, 1,500m, 4X400m relay, long jump in girls’ section, and 100m, 400m, 800m, 4X100m relay, and long jump in boys’ section. The club is also organising a campus-level competition from September 29-October 1. The club has also planned to organise a one-day seminar for the school-level coaches to raise the tournament standard. — HNS

Mitra leaves for India

KATHMANDU: B R Mitra, general secretary of Nepal Goju-Ryu Karate-Do Association, who is also the general secretary at the Asian Goju-Ryu Karate Federation, today left for New Delhi, India to take part in the Asian Goju-Ryu Karate Federation meeting to be held there from June 14-15. According to the association, the meeting is expected to discuss Asian Senior Goju-Ryu Karate Tournament and the formation of South and East Asian Goju-Ryu Federation.
