Prime basketball

Kathmandu: Prime College and Nepal Basketball Association (NeBA) are jointly organising the fifth Prime Cup Under-19 National Basketball Championship from December 15 in Kathmandu. A total of 29 teams — 21 in boys including Dharan and Chitwan teams from outside the valley and 8 in girls sections — are taking part in the 10-day event. The 21 teams in boys section are divided into eight pools with top two advancing to the last 16. The eight teams in girls’ section are divided into two groups. The semi-finals and finals will be held at the National Sports Council covered hall, while other matches will be held at Prime College court. — HNS

Inter-college football

LALITPUR: Everest College, Shanker Dev and Kathmandu Model College entered the quarter-finals of the Inter-college BBA Cup Running Shield Football Tournament on Tuesday. Everest defeated Kathford College 2-1 on goals from Dinesh Shahi and Sanjeev Bogati. Sudin Shrestha scored for Kathford. Bikash Sapkota struck twice and Rabindra Chand netted once as Shanker Dev beat Prime College 3-1. Sanjog Thapa and Kusendra Faiju scored one goal apiece in Kathmandu Model College’s 2-1 win over DAV College. Yuvik Shrestha scored the consolation goal for DAV. — HNS

Gyan Carnival

LALITPUR: Little Angels’ School registered a 54-53 win over Ideal Model in the boys’ basketball tournament held under the 14th Eicher Gyan Carnival. Likewise, Galaxy beat Brihaspati Vidhya Sadan 47-17, Little Angels’ overcame HIMS 57-40, LRI defeated Brihaspati 43-18 and Alpha’s edged past Gyanodaya 45-31. In the girls’ basketball, Little Angels’ sneaked past Gyanodaya 28-26. In football, GEMS beat IMS 5-1. — HNS

St Xavier’s, AVM in semis

Lalitpur: St Xavier’s and hosts AVM School advanced to the semi-finals of the fourth SNB Memorial Inter-school Cricket Tournament. St Xavier’s defeated Gyanodaya by 11 runs and AVM edged out Greenland Children Academy (GCA) by four wickets. St Xavier’s accumulated 134-6 in 20 overs and restricted Gyanodaya to 123-9. Pramesh Thapa scored 30 while Ashish Shrestha contributed 21 for St Xavier’s. Dilendra Yadav claimed two wickets for Gyanodaya. In reply, Gyanodaya fell 12 runs short despite man of the match Ritesh Karna’s 43. Ankit Shrestha and Kushal Pradhan bagged two wickets each for St Xavier’s. In the other match, GCA were all out for 94 in 19.1 overs. Wangel Lama scored 29 and Tarzan Pun made 23. Bidur Bista took 3-2 from 2.1 overs for AVM. AVM chased the total losing six wickets in 16.2 overs. Man of the match Prajwal Karmacharya scored unbeaten 42 runs. Sushil Karki took three wickets for GCA. — HNS

Budhanilkantha triumph

KATHMANDU: Budhanilkantha overcame Jyoti Academy 9-8 to claim the first Inter-school Central Region Boys’ Handball Tournament, organised by Sadabahar Sporting Society, at the Kapan Handball Ground. The finalists also qualified for the National School-level Handball Tournament slated for December 13-15. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Pasang scored 14 points to help LRI beat Ideal Model 35-22 in the second New Millennium Inter-school Basketball Tournament. Also, VS Niketan overcame Galaxy 36-24 riding on 14 from Badal. Daffodil got a walk over win from Little Angels’ in another match. — HNS
