Antique in quarters
MADHYAPUR: Antique Bhadgaon Secondary School beat Adarsha Secondary School 5-1 to enter the quarter-finals of the first Inter-school Invitational Football Tournament, organised by Madhyapur Youth Association, on Thursday. Dikesh Shrestha scored a hat-trick, while Saurav Shrestha and Sabin Shrestha netted one each for Antique. Rupendra Shrestha replied for Adarsha. Dikesh Khadgi was named the Attsh man of the match. Earlier, All Nepal Football Association president Ganesh Thapa inaugurated the tournament. On Friday, Kathmandu Don Bosco School will take on Adarsha School. — HNS
Awards handed over
KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Athletic Club (KAC) handed over the cash prizes on Thursday to top three winners of the second International Open Kathmandu Marathon held on November 3. Tribhuvan Army athlete Arjun Kumar Basnet had won the marathon followed by his club-mate Ananda Man Shrestha and Nepal Police Club runner Narayan Deshar. The KAC president Mirgendra Mishra gave away Rs 200,000, Rs 100,000 and Rs 50000 respectively to the top three winners. Three-time South Asian Games gold medallists Baikuntha Manandhar was also awarded with Rs 10,000 for his remarkable achievement. The club also announced November 4, 2008 as the date for the third edition of the marathon. The prize money for the top three winners in the next edition will be $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000, informed Mishra. — HNS
Coaches granted license
KATHMANDU: World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) has granted Kumar Bahadur Karki and Norbu Lama the international coaching license. Karki and Lama were granted the license after completing the 12th Taekwondo International Coaching Course held in Kukkiwon, South Korea, on July 18-22. The license holder will be eligible to coach and even open dojang in any part of the world. The license also empowers the holder to recommend WTF headquarters for upto third DAN degree. — HNS
