Acharya takes lead
Kathmandu: Rupak Acharya carded 5-over 77 to take one-stroke lead after the first round of the qualifying tournament for the ninth SAARC Golf Championship here on Monday. Rabi Khadka and Raj Pradhan are joint second with 6-over 78, while Hridesh Singh and Tashi Ghale finished at eight-over 80 apiece and are joint fourth. Ram Shrestha and Gopal Chitrakar carded 11-over 83. In all, 18 men and six women golfers are taking part in the qualifiers organised by Nepal Golf Association. The top three men after 54 holes and two women after playing 36 holes will qualify for the SAARC Championship slated at the Le Meridien Gokarna Forest Golf Resort and Spa from November 1-3. — HNS
Sushil, Bhupendra in final
POKHARA: Sushil Ghimire of APF and Bhupendra Bachhunje advanced to the men’s 64kg final at the National Boxing Tournament. Devendra Maharjan of APF and Man Bahadur Gurung of Kathmandu entered the 69kg final. Also making it to the finals were Bikashbal Lama of APF and Bikash Pariyar of Nepali Army in 75kg; Bhim Bahadur Jora of Kailali and Deepak Maharjan of Kathmandu in 81kg; and Sitaram BK of Nepali Army and Tek Bahadur Pun of Nawalparasi in 91kg.— HNS
National Kabbadi
KATHMANDU: Far-western Region made it to the final in both men’s and women’s section final at the 16th Men’s and 10th Women’s National Kabbadi Tournament held in Kanchanpur on Monday. Far-western defeated Western Region 19-11 and Central Region ousted Nepali Army 43-17 in the men’s semi-finals. Far-western Region eased past Central Region 38-16 and Purbanchal beat Western Region 68-21 in the women’s semi-finals. — HNS
Priti, Sarita advance
LALITPUR: Priti Rijal eased past Kalpana Thapa 6-3, 6-1 and Sarita Adhikari defeated Shagun Thapa 6-2, 6-1 to enter the women’s singles final at the eighth Nepal Investment Bank National Tennis Tournament here on Monday. Satdobato Tennis Academy ‘A’ beat Satdobato ‘B’ 2-0 to claim the team championship. Shyam Sundar, Atmaram Karki, Trikal Tuladhar, Mahesh Shahi, Shivaram Magar advanced to the men’s singles quarter-finals. — HNS
