National ITF C’ship

Palpa: Kusum Thapa and Ram Shrestha in senior and Puja Giri and Jeevan Khulal Magar in junior section were declared the best players at the Gen Choi Memorial National Taekwondo (ITF) Championship here on Sunday. Hosts Palpa dojo won the disciplined team award. A total of 301 players - 221 men and 94 women — from 12 zones took part in the tournament. The gold medallists in men’s sparring were Toran Bhandari, Basanta Khatri, Robin Thapa, Sunil Bartaula, Ritij Puri, Jeevan Khulal Magar, Ram Shrestha, Anup KC, Nirmal Neupane and Krishna Prasad Gyawali. The gold winners in women’s sections were Asmita Pathak, Puja Giri, Asha Shrestha, Sashi Rana Magar, Tulasa Rajthala, Kusum Thapa, Nirmala Gurung and Alina Gharti. Likewise, the winners in pattern category were Kusum Thapa, Tulasa Rajthala, Srijana Saru, Usha Shrestha, Sanju Karki, Laxman Shrestha, Sekhar Thapa, Sikuma Limbu and Hanok Limbu. — HNS

Kumari lead standings

Kathmandu: Kumari Club rallied to beat Chyasal Youth Club 2-1 in the Western Union Martyrs Memorial ‘C’ Division League Football Super Six round match. Krishna Shrestha and Nawaraj Ghale scored for Kumari after Nabin Deula had put Chyasal ahead. Kumari lead the standings with nine points while Nawa Jyoti are second with seven after a 1-0 win over Himalayan Sherpa Club. Ujjwol scored the winner in the 74th minute for Nawa Jyoti. Himalayan Sherpa are third with six points. Shree Kumari Club and Garuda Sports Club played a 1-1 draw. Kumari, Garuda and Chyasal all have one point apiece. — HNS

National Tennis tourney

Kathmandu: All Nepal Lawn Tennis Association (ANLTA) is organising the Nepal Investment Bank eighth National Tennis Tournament from September 29 to October 6 at the Satdobato Tennis Complex. About 150 to 200 players are expected to take part in the tournament that features eight events — men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, mixed doubles, team event, veteran’s singles and veteran’s doubles. The total prize money of the tournament — which is being held after the gap of 18 years — is Rs 252,500. The sponsors, Nepal Investment Bank has provided us Rs 400,000 and the National Sports Council Rs 150,000, said ANLTA president Manoj Rana. — HNS
