Bajracharya departs

KATHMANDU: President of Nepal Judo Association Deepak Harsha Bajracharya left for Brazil to attend the International Judo Federation Congress to be held in Rio-de-Janeiro from September 10-11. Bajracharya, who is also the vice president of Judo Union of Asia, will participate in the JUA Congress on September 9. During the congress, Bajracharya will present Nepal’s bid to host the South Asian Judo Championship in 2008 and request the international bodies to provide training for the developing countries including Nepal. Karan Bahadur Bom has been selected for the IJF World Championship from September 13-16, but his participation is under cloud as his air tickets have not been confirmed yet. — HNS

Volleyball tourney

KATHMANDU: SEB School defeated hosts Gyan Kunja 25-23, 32-30 in the inaugural match of the Valleywide first Gyan Kunja Cup Inter-school Volleyball Tournament. In other girls’ section matches, Puspa Kunja beat Paropakar 25-21, 25-8 and Sapta Gandaki beat hosts 25-19, 21-25, 25-18. In boys’ section, the Gyan Kunja ‘A’ beat Kamal 25-23, 25-18; Bright Future beat LRI 25-13, 25-27, 25-22; SEB beat Venus 25-23, 25-23, Sapta Gandaki beat Maha Manjushree 25-22, 25-11 and Anal Jyoti beat Deep Jyoti 25-20, 16-25, 25-21. In all, 34 teams are taking part in the event.— HNS

Valley Public win

KATHMANDU: Valley Public won the girls’ section title at the first Forward Inter-school Basketball Tournament defeating Mahendra Bhawan 20-12, while Mount Glory beat Green Land 52-39 in the boys’ section final. Merina KC and Sujata Rai scored eight points each for Valley Public and Alin Shrestha and Niraj Pariyar netted 12 points apiece for Mount Glory. Gillette and North Point finished third in the girls and boys’ sections respectively. — HNS
