Chess officials demand elections

KATHMANDU: A group of former officials and players on Sunday demanded the fresh elections of Nepal Chess Association (NCA). The group also alleged the National Sports Council member secretary Jeevan Ram Shrestha of unnecessarily delaying the process. Eight of the 12 officials of the NCA had on May 28 submitted the joint resignation to the NSC demanding the new ad hoc committee to amend bylaws, form district committees and hold fresh elections. “We are taking the issue to the press after the NSC showed no interest in forming the ad hoc committee,” said former secretary Bidur Gautam. “The existence of the association is meaningless after the resignation of the majority members,” the officials argued. — HNS
