Everest Marathon
KATHMANDU: One of the most challenging and world’s highest altitude marathons, Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon, is scheduled for May 29, the day Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary scaled the Mt Everest for the first time in 1953. The marathon begins from Everest Expedition Base Camp (5356m) and ends at the Namche Bazaar (3446m). More than 130 participants including 53 foreigners from the Netherlands, the USA, UK, Japan, Germany, Switzerland, Ireland, France, Australia, Austria, Finland, Czech Republic and Thailand are competing in the event, said Nepal Tourism Board in a release on Monday. The top three winners in men’s category will receive a purse of $1,000, $5,00 and $3,000 respectively while the top three finishers in the women’s category will win $5,00, $3,000 and $2,000 respectively. — HNS
Akhil Cup
LALITPUR: Patan Campus defeated Nick HS School 4-2 while Campion edged out British Gurkhas 1-0 in the Akhil Cup Valleywide Inter-college Football. Rejendra Khadka, Subhash Rai, Buddha Lama and Rajendra Gurung scored for Patan while Rashish Shrestha replied both the goals for Nick. Suraj Shah scored the lone goal for Campion. In the last match, Xavier International beat Amrit Science 2-0 on goals from Ramesh Katuwal and Chiran Rai. — HNS
Napit in final
BHAKTAPUR: Ritesh Napit of Nepal beat Mayur K Khadga of India to advance to the 20kg kumite final at the first International Invitational Karate and Kickboxing Championship, which has been organised by Bhaktapur Dojo. Likewise, Krisha Sherpa of Nepal made it to the women’s individual kata final. Advancing to the semi-finals included India’s Sabin Kriker (25kg), Rashik Tirodar (30kg) and Krishna Gola (35kg). Rohit Das Golta (60kg) and Pranam Rudakar (women’s open weight), both of India, secured the semi-final berths in kickboxing. In all 60 players from Nepal, 132 from India, 13 from Bangladesh and nine from Bhutan are competing in the tournament. — HNS
Coca Cola Cup
LALITPUR: Siddhartha Van-asthali and Little Angels’ advanced to the second round of the Coca Cola Cup Inter-school Football. At Chyasal, Siddhartha Vanasthali defeated Budhanilkantha 3-1 while Little Angels’ edged out Arunodaya 3-2. Pradeep Magar struck twice and Sanish Shrestha added the other for Vanasthali while Suraj Gurung replied for Budhanilkantha. PJ Dhote scored two and Tek Bahadur Tamang one goal for Little Angels’ while Bijay Gurung and Sagar Lama scored for Arunodaya. Prakash Gurung scored a hat-trick as Dipendra Police thrashed Sharada School 7-0 at Satdobato. Also, GEMS beat SOS Herman 1-0, Nandi defeated Greenland 2-1 and Yuva Prativa registered a 5-0 win over Blue Moon. — HNS
