Akhil Cup football

KATHMANDU: Nepal Commerce Campus (NCC) and British Gorkha won on the opening day of the Akhil Cup Valley-wide Inter-college Football on Thursday. UD Gurung struck twice while Thomson Bhusal, Rajendra Deula and Mohan Tamang added on goal each as NCC crushed Thapathali Engineering 5-0 while British Gorkha beat Nepal Rastriya Higher Secondary 7-2. Arid KC and Bijay Gurung scored two while Chhiring Dorje, Milan Adhikari and Ranjit Lama scored one each for British Gorkha. Robindra Silpakar and Deepak Chaudhary replied for Nepal Rastriya Secondary. — HNS

Inter-school football

LALITPUR: Bhaktapur English School beat Bansbari School 2-1 in the Coca Cola Cup Inter-school Football at the ANFA Complex on Thursday. In other matches, Adarsha Shaul blanked Vidhya Bikash 3-0, RIBS beat Gyanodaya Bal Batika 3-1in tiebreaker, and Bishwo Gorkha thrashed Prabhat School 7-0. Nandi Secondary School, Greenland, Shree Prativa and Blue Moon won their respective matches at the ANFA Technical Centre. — HNS

Regional Cricket

KATHMANDU: Nuwakot defeated Bhaktapur by five wickets in the Shikhar Regional (Kathmandu) Cricket Tournament on Thursday. Batting first, Bhaktapur were all out for 123 runs in 46.4 over. Rakesh Singh and Rikesh Lama claimed three wickets each for Nuwakot. In reply, Nuwakot chased the 124-run target in 30.4 overs losing five wickets. — HNS

Karate tournament

KATHMANDU: Roshan Shrestha and Milan Thapa entered the semi-finals of the U-20kg karate in the opening day of the 13th International High School Karate and Kickboxing Championship. Also in the semi-finals were; Pravin Manandhar and Anil Gautam (U-25kg), Kabir Kapali and Usef Pradhan (U-30kg), Jagriti Pakhrin and Anju Ranjit (U-40kg girls). — HNS

Inter-bank volleyball

KATHMANDU: Machhapuchhre Bank beat the hosts Nepal Rastra Bank ‘red’ in straight sets 25-20, 25-17, 25-20 in the third-place decider at the Inter-bank Volleyball Tournament here on Thursday. Kumari Bank and Agriculture Development Bank will play for the championship on Friday. — HNS
