Shrestha in final
LALITPUR: Rup Krishna Shrestha advanced to the Plate Championship final at the second CG Open Squash Tournament here on Saturday. Shrestha came from two sets down to beat Ranjit Singh 11-13, 8-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-8 in the day’s only match. He will take on Anish Narsingh Shakya in final. Hira Bahadur Thapa will play against Suresh Gurung in the Men’s Open final, while Chhitiz Gurung is up against Bhawana Sunuwar in the Women’s Open final. The finals are slated for Sunday. — HNS
PK enter Super Three
KATHMANDU: The blue team of hosts Padma Kanya Campus defeated Amrit Science College 26-24, 21-25, 25-13, 34-32 to enter the Super Three stage of the third Valleywide Inter-campus Professors’ Volleyball Tournament here on Saturday. RR Campus and Tri-Chandra Campus have already advanced to the Super Three. The top two teams after the round-robin league of these three teams will advance to the final. — HNS
Sports training in Palpa
KATHMANDU: The two-day sports journalism training began in Tansen, Palpa on Saturday. A total of 30 active journalists are taking part in the training organised by Nepal Sports Journalists Form, Coordination Committee, Palpa under the auspices of District Sports Development Committee and Youth Communication Centre. NSJF Central Committee President Niranjan Rajbanshi, General Secretary Hemanta Kafle and Member Devendra Subedi along with Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Treasurer Ramesh Bista are conducting the training. DSDC President Bimal Kafle inaugurated the training. NSJF, Coordination Committee, Palpa is also rewarding three veteran players and a journalist during the closing ceremony on Sunday. Youth and Sports Minister Ganesh Nepali and National Sports Council Member Secretary Jeevan Ram Shrestha are scheduled to attend the closing ceremony. — HNS
‘C’ div reps nominated
KATHMANDU: A meeting of nine ‘C’ Division Clubs nominated three clubs as their representatives for the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) general assembly slated for September 7. The meeting picked Shree Kumari Club of Balkhu, Nava Jyoti Youth Club of Kalanki and Satdobato Youth Club as their voting member clubs for the ANFA elections. — HNS
Bouddha Champion
KATHMANDU: Bouddha Dojo won the team championship of the second Bagmati Zonal Karate and Kick Boxing Tournament with eight gold, five silver and two bronze medals. Baglung came second with three gold medals, while Balaju finished third with two gold, one silver and four bronze medals. Muna Rana Magar of Manakamana and Niranjan Khadka of National Dojo were declared the best players in kumite, while Ganesh Bhandari of Lagankhel and Melina Adhikari of Samakhishu earned the honour in kick boxing. The two-day championship was organised by National Dojo of Nepal Shito-Ryu Karate Do. — HNS
