Chaudhary wins 100m

Kathmandu: Jagdish Chaudhary clocked 11.53 ahead of Man Bahadur Kaucha (11.81) to win the men’s 100m race at the first National Republic Sports Festival, organised by National Republic Sports Federation, here at the Dasharath Stadium on Tuesday.

Chiranjibi Bista won the 60kg karate championship beating Man Bahadur Kaucha in the final. Other winners in men’s karate included Suresh Adhikari (75kg) and Diger Dev Bhatta (open).

The winners in the women’s bouts were Sharmila Lama (40kg), Roji Nagarkoti (50kg), Rohini Shakya (45kg), Ganga Adhikari (55kg), Rita Maiya Sainju (open), Shuvadra Shrestha (individual kata) and Bagmati (team kata).

Dinesh Shrestha (51kg), Bikal Parajuli (57kg), Chhatraman Pokharel (63kg), Rajan Kumar Paija (54kg), Subhash Nahaki (60kg), Amar Kayastha (66kg), Kumar Thakuri (open weight), Lalita Shahi (48kg) and Roji Nagarkoti (51kg) were the winners in the kick-boxing tournament.

Janakpur and Dhaulagiri entered the men’s volleyball final while Gandaki and Bagmati advanced to the women’s volleyball final. Remaining final matches will be held on Wednesday. — HNS

APF team champion

LALITPUR: Armed Police Force (APF) Officers’ Club won three gold, one silver and three silver medals to clinch the team championship at the Nationwide Open Boxing Championship here on Tuesday. Makwanpur won three gold while Mahendra Police Club (MPC) and Kailali bagged one gold medal each. Ratna Tamang of MPC, who won the 69kg title, was declared the best player of the tournament. APF gold medallists included Anil Dahal (51kg), Purna Bahadur Lama (57kg) and Sushil Ghimire (64kg) while Makwanpur winners were Puran Rai (54kg), Ajit Gurung (60kg) and Rajan Silpakar (75kg). Laxman Saud gave Kailali the only gold medal in 48kg. Top three winners in all the events got Rs 3,000, Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,000 respectively. — HNS
