Weightlifters selected
KATHMANDU: Nepal Weightlifting Association on Monday named seven weightlifters for the 10th South Asian Games to be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, from August 18-28. Three players from Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC), two from Nepal Police while one each from Saptari and Parsa were selected for the regional tournament on Monday. Among the TAC weightlifters are Kamal Bahadur Adhikari (69kg), Raju Rana (77kg) and Gyan Bahadur Shrestha (85kg). Rakesh Ranjit (65kg) and Bipendra Maharjan (above 105kg) were chosen from Nepal Police, while other two selected are Kunti Lal Yadav (94kg) of Saptari and Bijendra Bikram Shah (105kg) of Parsa. — HNS
HIMS basketball
KATHMANDU: Himalayan International Model School (HIMS) is organising the second Inter-school Boys’ Basketball Championship from July 21-28. A total of 16 schools from Kathmandu Valley have confirmed their participation in the tournament to be played under league-cum-knockout basis, the organisers said at a press meet here on Monday. Only students upto grade 10 are allowed to take part in the tournament, the school informed. Apart from the top three winners, the Most Valuable Player and highest scorer will be awarded. RIBS are the defending champions. — HNS
Sony lucky draw
KATHMANDU: Nabina Maharjan won the first prize of the lucky draw contest ‘Sony World Cup Offers’ run by Nepa Hima Trade Link Pvt Ltd, a distributor of Sony products in Nepal, during the FIFA World Cup 2006. Maharjan of Lazimpat won a digital camara worth Rs 16,600 while Ajin Awale of Patan bagged a DVD player and Jean Karmacharya got a Discman. ‘C’ Division League
KATHMANDU: Koilapani Poll Star Club came from two goals down to draw Swayambhu Club 2-2 in the ‘C’ Division League. Nawaraj Ghale put Swayambhu ahead in the 27th minute before adding another in the 37th minute. Bhojraj Chhetri scored twice in the 47th and 51st minute to earn a valuable point for Koilapani. In another Group ‘D’ match, Samakhusi Club failed to hold the two-goal lead and settled for a 2-2 draw against Annapurna Club. Raju Tamang and Santosh Balami scored for Samkhusi while Sujan Dhimal and Makar Dwoj Gurung netted one each for Annapurna. — HNS
Little Angels’, DPS win
LALITPUR: Rojis Maharjan’s 40th minute strike was enough to seal Little Angels’ 1-0 win over Ram Shah High School in the Group ‘B’ match of the Coca Cola Inter-school Football Tournament here today. Dipendra Police School (DPS) beat Siddhartha Ganesh High School 2-0 in another match from the same group. Chhitiz Lama gave DPS a lead in the 23rd minute before Ramesh Chaudhary sealed the victory in the 60th minute. — HNS
