Kalsan tops Day II

KATHMANDU: Dhundup Kalsan registered the highest break of 257 in his five-game total of 999 pinfalls and advanced to the final round of the Mali Bowling Championship, which has been organised by Paradise Tours and Travels, here today. Kalsan was at the 18th position on the first day with 592 pinfalls ahead of two non-bowlers — Niranjan Rajbanshi (585) and Mahesh Acharya (576), who finished 15th and 19th respectively. Two ladies — Binu Pradhan (846) and Maya Gurung (810) — also failed to qualify for third round. The biggest upset of the day was Sanjaya Lama, who led the field on the first day but failed to qualify for the third round. Lama, who scored 754 in four games on Friday, accumulated 858 pinfalls from five games today. Karma Ghale (974), Varun Dawadi (948), Nepal No 1 Kumar Tamang (922), tournament convenor Nilendra Mali (908), Raju Shrestha (899), Raj Kumar Ranjit (874), Sonam Nepali (868) and Abhi Rana (866) qualified for the third round. — HNS

Himalayan Club win

LALITPUR: Himalayan Archery Club won the first National Archery Tournament organised by Nepal Archery Association, to select the players for the forthcoming South Asian games to be held in Sri Lanka next year. Himalayan Club, led by Deepak Gurung, accumulated 209 points, ahead of Kishor Kumar Gurung-led Annapurna Archery Club of Pokhara (170). BMW Club of Kathmandu came third with 151 points, while Mustang Barhagaun Archery Club won the fair play award. Juluk Pun Magar of Himalayan Archery Club won the individual section title with 100 points beating Yogendra Serchan of Annapurna Club, who earned 84 points. Deepak Raj Gurung and Ujir Magar finished third and fourth. — HNS
