Under-19 cricket

KATHMANDU:

Cricket Association of Nepal is organising the Wai Wai Under-19 Regional Selection Cricket Tournament of Region No 3 (KATHMANDU) from September 24-26 at TU Stadium. Lalitpur will take on Nuwakot in the inaugural match, while Kathmandu will play against Bhaktapur. Its Kathmandu vs Nuwakot and lalitpur vs Bhaktapur on September 25, and Kathmandu vs Lalitpur and Nuwakot vs Bhaktapur on September 26. The selected team will play in the Under-19 National League and the selection committee will nominate the players for Under-19 Youth Asia Cup to be held in November. — HNS

ITF National Championship

KATHMANDU:

Nepal International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) is organising the first Gen Choi Memorial National Taekwondo Championship to mark the anniversary of General Choi Hong He, founder of taekwondo, from September 24 in Kathmandu. In all, 120 players from nine districts of the country will take part in the two-day event, which offers a total of 26 gold medals, said Gir Prasad Budhathoki, general secretary of Nepal ITF, at a press conference today. The best two players, one each in men’s and women’s sections, will get an opportunity to take part in the International Taekwondo Championship to be held in Canada next year. Nepal ITF president Krishna Bahadur Balal and vice president Chetan Raj Giri were also present. — HNS

Archery tournament

KATHMANDU:

Nepal Archery Association (NAA) is organising the first National Archery Tournament in Lalitpur on September 22-24 to select the players for the South Asian games to be held on Sri Lanka next year. More than six teams are expected to take part in the historic event, said Lal Bahadur Gurung, president of the NAA. The winner will receive Rs 15,000, while the runners-up will get Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively. The best player of the tournament will be awarded with Rs 5,000. — HNS

KATHMANDU:

Free Student Union (FSU) of Tri-Chandra College beat B Sc IInd Year 25-22, 25-23 in a volleyball match on the inaugural day of the Inter-standard Sports Tournaments, which has been organised by FSU at Tri-Chandra College. Earlier, campus chief Rajendra Prasad Chaudhary and FSU president Saroj Kumar Thapa jointly inaugurated the tournament, which features competitions among the college students in volleyball, basketball, football, cricket, badminton, table tennis, athletics, and chess. — HNS
