Dhaulagiri Cup

KATHMANDU:

Tribhuvan Army Club defeated Gyanendra Armed Police Force Officers’ Club 25-15, 25-14, 25-17 in the final of the Dhaulagiri Cup Open Volleyball Tournament organised by Dhorpatan Sports Training Centre. Raj Kumar Adhikari of Tribhuvan Army Club was named the best player of the tournament. The armymen earned Rs 10,000 and the APF got Rs 6,000. In the third-place playoff, Mahendra Police Club beat Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Centre 25-18, 25-13, 25-7 and earned Rs 3,000. The four semi-finalists have qualified for the Dhorpatan Cup International Volleyball Tournament to be held later this year. — HNS

Monsoon Meet 2005

KATHMANDU:

Shridiwa, RIBS, LRI and Young Heart entered the senior boys’ section semi-finals of the Monsoon Meet Inter-school Basketball Tournament, which has been organised by Shridiwa International School. In the day’s quarters, Shridiwa defeated Gyan Niketan 71-59; RIBS downed Shuvatara 75-29; LRI defeated Ideal Model 43-35. In junior boys’ section, Shridiwa, Wilson, Gyan Niketan and RIBS made it to the last four. In quarters, Shridiwa defeated Daffodil 51-24; Wilson outplayed Holy Garden 55-15; and Gyan Niketan beat HIMS 47-25; and RIBS edged past Sambotta 49-44. — HNS

School bowling

KATHMANDU:

Universal Higher Secondary School came first in the first Inter-school Bowling Tournament organised by Bowling Boulevard in association with The Pioneers. Vinayak English School and Siddhartha Vidyapeeth finished second and third in the one-day event held at Bowling Boulevard, Kantipath. Amulya Bista of Kathmandu International School (KINS) was declared the best player of the tournament participated in by 16 schools. The event was held in three rounds — warmup, Elimination, and Final. Nine schools made it to the finals. President of Nepal Bowling Association Senon D Lama, principal of RAI school G S Chaudhary, principal of KINS Kailash Karki, and director of Bowling Boulevard Anmol Singh, gave away prizes to the winners. — HNS

Milan basketball

KATHMANDU:

Gyanodaya, Occidental, Baba Vatika, Triyog and Ideal Model registered wins at the third Milan Inter-school Girls’ Basketball Tournament, which has been organised by Milan Vidya Mandir. In the fourth-day matches, Gyanodaya defeated New Summit 27-5 riding on Manisha Sherchan’s 10 points; Occidental outplayed Holy Garden 26-2 in which Srijana KC netted 15 points, Baba Vatika edged past Young Heart 17-11; Neha Singh netted 12 points as Triyuga beat Wilson 15-12; and Maya Syangtan scored 16 points in Ideal Model’s 42-2 thrashing over Reliance. — HNS

Laboratory in semis

KATHMANDU:

Laboratory School entered the semi-finals of the sixth Valleywide Inter-school Football Tournament, which has been organised by Gyanodaya School to mark the 78th birthday of Queen Mother Ratna and 41st Children’s Day. Lok Bahadur Bote and Dipesh Kunwar scored two goals each, and Lal Kiran Dhungel struck one for Lab. Lab will face Gyanodaya on Wednesday. Little Angels’ School will take on Manjushree School in the fist semi-final on Tuesday. — HNS
