LALITPUR:
Malpi English School thrashed Little Flower Public School 10-0 in the inaugural match of the Ratna Cup Inter-school Boys Football Tournament here at ANFA Technical Centre, Chyasal. The other match between Siddhi Ganesh School and Maryland Public School was postponed due to rain. Earlier, Kishor Bahadur Singh, member secretary of National Sports Council, inaugurated the 40-team event. — HNS

Lakpa Dolma scored 18 points as Prithvi School routed Occidental 34-6 in the third Milan Valleywide Inter-school Girls’ Basketball Tournament. In other matches, Teresa Academy thrashed Baba 24-2; Young Hearts vanquished Pacific 18-1; GEMS routed Wilson 26-5, TIA outplayed Unique 37-4, Pennwood defeated Milan 36-24; and Valley Public edged past LRI 23-17. — HNS
Dhaulagiri Cup
KATHMANDU:
Mahendra Police Club (MPC), Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Centre (JVTC), Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) and Gyanendra APF Officers’ Club entered the semi-finals of the Dhaulagiri Cup Open Men’s Volleyball Tournament. In the day’s matches, MPC defeated JVTC 25-14, 25-15, 25-8; TAC outplayed Blue Moon 25-12, 25-15, 25-13 and APF ended Blue Moon’s remaining hopes with a 25-15, 25-14, 25-21 victory. — HNS
Nepal ITF belt test held
KATHMANDU:
Laxmi Gautam and Pukar KC came first and second in the first-Dan belt test organised by Nepal International Taekwondo Federation. In second-Dan belt test, Shanti Tamang and Krishna Gopal Rajthala grabbed top two spots. The test was conducted by ITF chief coaches Niroj Raj Poudel, Raju Gartaula, Khem Bahadur Kanauje and Anjunath Shrestha. Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan, general secretary of Nepal Olympic Committee, gave away the belts and certificates to the players. — HNS
Deshar finishes first
LALITPUR:
Bikash Dehsar, Hom Raj Rai and Rajendra Deshar claimed top three spots in the boys’ 5-km race at the Lalitpur Districtwide Race organised by School Development Associates
under the auspices of Emerald School to mark the 41st Children’s Day. Amrit Sapkota won the consolation prize. In girls’ 4-km race, Rituaharjan came first, followed by Pranita Shrestha and Binita Deshar. Sushma Giri won the consolation award. President of SDA Madan Krishna Shrestha gave away prizes. — HNS
National karate ends
KATHMANDU:
Purushottam Rijal beat Birendra Oli in final and Bikash Shrestha outplayed Ashok Gurung for third place in the Open weight category of the 12th National Men’s Open and fifth National Women’s Full Contact Karate Tournament, organised by Nepal Kyukoshin Karate-Do Association. The top four winners received Rs 25,000, Rs 12,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 2,500 respectively. In women’s section, the top-four finishers were Sumitra Napit, Jharana Gurung, Nisha Lama, and Rita Karki, who bagged Rs 5,000, Rs 2,500, Rs 1,200 and Rs 500 respectively. — HNS
