Sano Gaucharan win

KATHMANDU: Richard Samuel and Ramesh Man Singh Basnet scored a hat-trick each as Sano

Gaucharan Club thrashed Brihaspati Club 11-2 and set up a semi-final clash against Mahabir Club at the sixth Sano Gaucharan Knock-out Football Tournament, today. Junior Obeg Emiro netted twice while Santosh Shrestha, Manu Gautam and Paresh Sapkota scored one goal each for Sano Gaucharan. Sajan Khadka and Bishnu Lal Khadka scored for Brihaspati. In Tuesday’s quarter-final, Bouddha Club will take on Thapagaun Sudhar Samiti.

RIBS thrash Shridiwa

KATHMANDU: Sashank Ghale top-scored with 14 points as RIBS thrashed Shridiwa School 58-8 and Shridiwa went down 40-42 to Gyan Niketan School in the other match of the Kathmandu

district wide Inter-school Basketball Tournament, which has been organised by PABSON to mark the 78th birthday of Queen Mother Ratna and the 41st Children’s Day. Also, Mount Glory School beat Camellia School 14-11; Nava Jyoti School beat Babylon School 36-12; and Holy Garden School beat Swati Sadan 25-8.

Karate team departs

KATHMANDU: A 20-member Goju-Kai Karate team left for Kolkata to take part at the Invitational Karate Championship, slated for August 13-15. In all, 13 athletes including two women, are taking part at the tournament, which will be participated in by 10 nations. President of Nepal Karate Federation Thaneshwor Rai is the team leader along with six officials. NSC member secretary Kishor Bahadur Singh bade farewell to the team. — HNS
