Khadka, Baniya win

LALITPUR: Sudan Khadka of Royal Nepal Army and Nepal Police’s Saraswati Baniya won 10m Air Pistol titles in men’s and women’s sections at the Birthday Cup Open Shooting Competition,

which has been organised by Nepal Shooting Association to mark King Gyanendra’s 59th birthday. Khadka was followed by Rudra Raj Maskey of Central Region (536) and Deepak Thapa of RNA (533) while Sangita Karki and Sabita Basnet came second and third in women’s

section. Aseem Yadav (567), Shankar Shrestha (563) and Krishna Ghorasaini (557) claimed the top three spots in Men’s 10m Air Rifle event. The remaining events are slated for Monday.

Singh in last eight

LALITPUR: Sudip Bahadur Singh entered the quarter-finals defeating Ben Majakker 3-0 on the second day of the Open Squash Championship, which has been organised by Nepal Squash Rackets Association on the occasion of King Gyanendra’s 59th birthday. In the other pre-quarter round mat-ches, Hira Bahadur Thapa routed Hemanta Chhetry 3-0; Prajjwol Pradhan ousted Gaurav Katuwal 3-0; Anil Singh defeated Sushil Simkhada 3-0; and Dilip Adhikari edged out Randir Singh 3-1. In the boys’ Novice section, Ken Watt defeated Binit Shrestha 3-1 and routed Diseb Shrestha 3-0. In all, 48 players — including 16 in men’s, nine in women’s, six in novice, 12 in masters’ and five in boys’ U-14 — are taking part in the event, which ends on Saturday. — HNS
