ANFA Academy in semi-finals

JHAPA: ANFA Academy Under-19 team defeated United Boys Sporting Club 1-0 to enter the semi-finals of the Martyr Gold Cup Football Tournament on Wednesday. Man of the match Ganesh Khadka scored in the 13th minute following a pass from Bishal Rai. United had a chance to equalise in the 25th minute of the second half but ANFA Academy goalkeeper Dinesh Thapa saved Kiran Rai’s attempt. In Thursday’s semi-final, New Road Team (NRT) will take on Morning Club of Bangladesh. — HNS

Swimmers off to Japan

KATHMANDU: A three-member Nepali swimming team on Wednesday left for Japan to participate in the 50th Japan Open Swimming Championship slated for February 21-22. Saila Rana and her younger brother Sailesh Rana will take part in the 50m freestyle and backstroke events. Ravi Poudel is accompanying the players as their coach. — HNS

Three Star, RCT triumph

LALITPUR: Ganesh Ayer scored the solitary goal as Three Star defeated New Road Team (NRT) 1-0 in the Nepal Bank ‘A’ Division Junior Football League here on Wednesday. After a goalless 35-minute first half, Ayer scored in the 41st minute to put Three Star on top Group A with six points from two matches. In the other match, Sewak Siwakoti struck twice in Rani Pokhari Corner Team’s 2-0 victory over Boys Union. Siwakoti scored in the 16th and 29th minutes. — HNS

ECS, Ex-Bagar enter final

KATHMANDU: Employment Creation Services (ECS) and Ex-Bagar Club of Western Region entered the final of the first Men’s National Volleyball League on Wednesday. ECS defeated Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Centre 25-19, 27-29, 25-23, 26-24, while Ex-Bagar beat Purbanchal Volleyball Club 25-20, 23-25, 25-22. Anjan Giri of ECS and Sunil Krishna Shrestha of Ex-Bagar were named the man of the match. — HNS

Inter-school Basketball

KATHMANDU: Green Field National School is organising the third Inter-school Basketball Tournament from Saturday to mark its 11th anniversary. In all, 50 schools in three categories — junior boys, senior boys and teachers — are taking part in the tournament, the organisers said on Wednesday. The school is also planning to organise 10km and 5km races apart from blood donation, health camp and clean up programmes. — HNS
