Thapa receives AFC award

KATHMANDU: Asian Football Confederation awarded president of All Nepal Football Association, Ganesh Thapa with AFC Distinguished Service Award for his contribution towards the development of football in Nepal.

The AFC will felicitate Thapa on May 8, on the occasion of the 50th aniversary and the 21st AFC Congress in Malaysia. Thapa, who has been affiliated with the AFC for more than a decade, is a member of disciplinary committee of FIFA, joint coordinator and executive member of the AFC and president of South Asian Football Federation (SAFF). — HNS

Manandhar gets Rs 2,40,000

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to provide Rs 2,40,000 more to Baikuntha Manandhar for his treatement. Earlier, the government had given Rs 2,00,000 to the marathon legend, who has been suffering from cardiac problems. Manandhar, who set the South Asian record by winning marathon three consecutive golds in first, second and third South Asian Federation (SAF) Games, is due to visit India for further treatment. Manandhar also holds the South Asian record of 2 hours 15 minutes. — HNS

Shrestha Tokyo-bound

KATHMANDU: Senior instructor of Nepal Shotokan Karate Association (SKIF), Om Narayan Shrestha left for Tokyo today to participate in the Referee and Grading Seminar to be held in the SKIF headquarters from May 3-12. Chief instructor and senior vice president of the association, Niwas Gopal Baidya saw off the third DAN instructor. Rajan Tuladhar, Surendra Karanjit, Dinesh Shakya, Shatrughan Maharjan were also present on the occasion. SKIF general secretary Dilendra Baidya, who is in Japan, will also attend the seminar. — HNS

Ujwon Shrestha bereaved

KATHMANDU: Hem Narayan Shrestha, father of Three Star Club player Ujwon, passed away on April 27. Shrestha, 54, was suffering from diabetis and died while undergoing treatment at B & B Hospital. In the condolence message issued on Thursday, the Three Star Club mourned over the sad demise of Shrestha. — HNS
