NPC regain lead
KATHMANDU: Nepal Police Club (NPC) regained the lead with eight points at the Super League of the first National Volleyball Men's League Championship on Monday. NPC made a swift work disposing Western Region 25-20, 25-10, 25-10 for their fourth consecutive victory here at the Nepal Sports Council covered hall. Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club are second at the leaderboard with six points while Employment Creation Services (ECS) and Western Region have five points each. — HNS
Hosts GAA triumph
KATHMANDU: Golden Gate and hosts Godavari Alumni Association (GAA) won their respective matches at the Fed-Ex fifth Fr Watrin Women's Basketball Tournament on Monday. In the Super League matches held at the GAA Hall, Golden Gate cruised past Snow Leopards 45-32. Maya Syangten top scored with 23 points for Golden Gate. In another match the hosts saw off Prime 44-27 riding on Sushma Thapa's 10 points. — HNS
Armymen enter semis
ABUKHAIRENI: Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) reached to the semi-finals of the Inter-club National Football Tournament with a 2-0 win over Sankata Club here on Monday. Held at the Gorakhkali Rubber Industries' grounds, Amrit Basnet provided the 18th lead for the Army club before Biswarag Samal added another in the 68th minute to seal the match. In the second quarter-final match on Tuesday, Nepal Police club will take on Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club. The tournament is being organised by All Star Club of Abukhaireni. — HNS
Bodybuilding C’ship
KATHMANDU: Kaski District, in coordination with Nepal Bodybuilding and Fitness Association, is organising the third Mr Himalaya Bodybuilding Championship in Pokhara from Tuesday. In all, 100 bodybuilders from various districts are vying for the championship. The event features competition in eight categories — 55kg, 60kg, 65kg, 70kg, 75kg, 80kg, above-80kg and the overall champion. Top three bodybuilder in the overall championship will receive Rs 100,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 40,000 respectively while others finishing atop seventh position will also get Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. Winner of each of the seven weight category will qualify for the overall championship showing. — HNS
Players felicitated
KATHMANDU: Nepal Blind Cricket Association feted the male and female cricketers here on Monday. A total of 12 differently-abled cricketers in four categories were awarded for their performances over the last year. In the B1 Group, Bikram Bahadur Rana was adjudged the best player who made 122 runs and took 10 wickets last year. Shree Prasad Ghimire was adjudged the best player in the B2 Group for taking six wickets and 139 runs. Kritan Shrestha Duwal sealed the B3 Group best player award for his 247 runs and 16 wickets. Sunil Chhetri, Damodar Poudel and Rabi Poudel received the award of Rising Star of the Year in the B1, B2 and B3 Groups respectively. In women's category, Sanju Rana, Bhagwati Amgai, Bhagwati Bhattarai and Geeta Poudel were adjudged the best player of the year in the respective groups. Three other cricketers were also honoured for their academic achievement in different sectors. The annual program of the association ended with a declaration to hold the third National Blind Cricket Tournament in Pokhara next year. — HNS

LALITPUR: Aryans United Club defeated hosts Khalibari Club 'B' 4-0 in the first Eight A-Side knockout Football Tournament here on Monday. In other matches played at the Buddhi Bikash Mandal grounds, Samakhusi, Chakratirtha, Gorkha Boys and DPS United Club all registered wins. — HNS
