NPC triumph
BHAKTAPUR: Nepal Police Club (NPC) defeated Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) 31-29, 26-24, 27-25 in the final of the sixth Workers’ Cup Volleyball Tournament organised by Youth Sports Group here on Sunday. The Nepal APF Club finished third with a 25-12, 25-20, 25-17 victory over Myagdi Volleyball Training Centre. Em Rana Magar of NPC was declared the best player of the tournament. Camp concluded
LALITPUR: The winter camp conducted by Samsunj Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC) ended here
on Saturday. A total of 20 participants had enrolled in the one-month-long camp conducted
by Raja Ram Karki and Raj Kumar KC. Club advisor and CA member Sarad Singh Bhandari and club president Sunil Rana gave away the sports gears and certificates to the participants at the closing ceremony. Club general secretary Man Mohan KC and programme coordinator along with former president Thulo Bhai KC were also present on the occasion. — HNS
CAN-XI beat HK
KATHMANDU: CAN-XI defeated Under-17 Hong Kong team by six wickets in a friendly match here at the Tribhuvan University Stadium on Sunday. Played as a warmup match for the upcoming ACC Under-17 Elite Cup, Hong Kong could only muster 73 runs in 26.2 overs. Sunny Bhimsariya scored 23 for the visitors while Ritesh Singh, who was later named the man of the match, completed a five-wicket haul for the home team. In reply, Subhash Khakurel scored 17 and Sunam Gautam made 14 as CAN-XI surpassed the target losing four wickets in 17.3 overs. Aaizaz Khan picked up three wickets for Hong Kong. The ACC U-17 Elite Cup is slated here for February 4-12. — HNS
Classic win
KATHMANDU: Classic and Bernhardt won their basketball matches at the Don Bosco Weeka Talentia here on Sunday. Classic beat New Summit 46-31 riding on Ranjit Giri’s 18 points, while Bernhardt edged past Orient 63-61. Pushpa of Orient top scored with 27, while Bivash netted 20 for the winners. In women’s section match, Orient defeated hosts Don Bosco 15-7 in which Bhabesa Gurung scored five for the winners. — HNS
Pulchowk lift title
LALITPUR: Pulchowk Engineering College won the Advance Inter-technical Football Tournament with a 1-0 win over Kantipur Engineering College here at the FIFA Technical Centre in Chhyasal. Utsav Dhungana scored the winning goal in the 55th minute. Lojang Sherpa was named the man of the match and also grabbed the best player of the tournament award. Other individual award winners were Dhungana (highest scorer), Ritesh Thapa (best goalkeeper), Khim Chhantyal (best midfielder), Roshan KC (best defender) and IoM Maharajgunj (disciplined team). — HNS
Bouddha in quarters
KATHMANDU: Bouddha Secondary School thrashed Tokha Valley 10-2 and entered the quarter-finals of the Loyalty Cup third Valleywide Inter-school Junior Football Tournament here on Sunday. Pasang Lama scored a double hat-trick, while Muskan Lama and Ashok BK scored two goals each. In the other match, GEMS defeated Shangrila 5-4 to advance to the pre-quarters. Unique and Susal scored two goals apiece and Anish netted one for GEMS. Sandesh Thapa struck a hat-trick and Ajay KC scored one for Shangrila. — HNS
Gyan Basketball
KATHMANDU: Gyan Niketan School is organising the Gyan Inter-school Basketball Tournament from February 2-12. In all, 23 teams will vie for the championship in senior boys’ section while 10 teams are in contention for the senior girls’ trophy, said the organisers here at a press meet on Sunday. Likewise, 12 teams will battle it out for the title in the junior boys’ section. The organisers have also announced Rs 1,000 for the most valuable players in all three categories. — HNS
