MEGHAULI: Air Tusker of England defeated Indian Tigers 3-2 in the inaugural match of the 27th International Elephant Polo Championship here on Monday. In other matches of the day, England’s Pukka Chukkas beat Nepal’s Tiger Tops Tusker 6-5, Chitwan National Park British Gurkhas of England 10-7, and Scotland’s Chivas Regal edged past New York Blue of the US 6-5. A total of eight teams are participating in the annual event organised by World Elephant Polo Association to mark its anniversary. — HNS

Lama clinches gold

LALITPUR: Manisha Lama won the 47-51kg section gold bating Minu Lama on the inaugural day of the first Valleywide Invitational Taekwondo Tournament, organised by Nepali Congress Lalitpur District Sports Division, here on Monday. Also, Amit Rai beat Utsav Thapa to win the 20-23kg gold, while Ramu Thapa defeated Subin Awal in the 32-35kg final and Yadu Shah outplayed Dinesh Chamling in the 54kg final. Earlier, Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala inaugurated the three-day event. — HNS
