Nepal in semis

KATHMANDU: Nepal made it to the semi-finals in the Junior Girls’ Team Event with a 3-1 win over Pakistan at the South Asian Table Tennis Tournament in Karachi on Wednesday. Renuka won two singles matches and Namita Shrestha won one while the duo lost a doubles match against the hosts. Renuka defeated Eyesha Khan 3-1 before defeating Mahima 3-2, whom Namita also prevailed 3-2. Renuka and Namita, however, lost 2-3 in the doubles match against Eyesha and Mahima. — HNS

C Div qualifier

KATHMANDU: Nava Pravat Youth Club, Rudramati Yuva Samaj Club and Srijansil Youth Club advanced to the Group A semi-finals at the C Division League qualifying tournament. Nava Pravat edged out Dhuncho Youth Club 4-3 with Kesan Lama and Subin KC scoring two goals each. Roshan Kumar Chaudhary struck twice and Pradeep Ghimire added another for Dhuncho. Likewise, Rudramati beat Sports Special Club 2-1 and Srijansil blanked West Kathmandu Club 3-1. — HNS

Sunita feted

KATHMANDU: Sunita Magar, who recently claimed the bronze medal at the second Junior and ninth Asian Judo Championship held in Yemen, was felicitated by the Nepal Judo Association (NJA) here on Wednesday. Sunita claimed the bronze in the 57kg junior section. The NJA president Deepak Harsha Bajracharya handed over Rs 5,000 to Sunita and Rs 2,000 to her coach Jit Bahadur Chaudhary. — HNS

Eicher Race

LALITPUR: Shuvatara International School is organising the sixth Eicher Inter-school Cross Country Race here on July 12. The race has been divided into two categories — Boys 8km and Girls 5.3km. In all, 482 students from 71 schools took part in the race last year and the numbers of participants this year is expected to increase, said the organisers on Wednesday. — HNS

Kalika advance

KATHMANDU: Social Secondary School of Pokhara and Kalika Secondary School secured the semi-final berths here at the Inter-Secondary School National Football Tournament, organised by Nepal Football Association, on Wednesday. Social Secondary School cruised to a 4-2 win over Rastriya Secondary School of Kailali while Kalika advanced on a better goal difference than Mills Secondary School after two teams tied 1-1. — HNS

Everest through

BHAKTAPUR: Everest English School edged past Vidhya Bikash Boarding School 2-0 to enter the semi-finals of the Bhaktapur District-level Football Tournament on Wednesday. Mausham Limbu and Rabi Lage scored for Everest. In another match, North Point beat Bageswori School 1-0 with a goal from Shyam Thapa. Bageswori, however, have filed a protest against Everest alleging them for fielding outsiders in their team. — HNS
