Fifth Pramod Memorial Swimming from June 16

KATHMANDU: Nepal Swimming Association is organising the fifth Pramod Memorial Age-group and Open Swimming Championship from June 16-18 at the International Sports Complex in Satdobato, Lalitpur. The championship features competitions in 50m, freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly in 11-12 and 13-14 age-groups in both boys and girls’ sections. The 15-17 age-group will have all the four strokes in 50m and 100m events, while the 200m events have been added in the open section for both men and women sections. The tournament will select two each men and women swimmers for the 13th World FINA Swimming Championship to be held in Rome, Italy. — HNS

Rara Hill triumph

KATHMANDU: Rara Hill School defeated Ideal Model 29-24 in the final of the BernHardt Inter-school 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament. Sanjeev Maharjan scored 15 points for the winners, while Sabin Gurung netted 11 for Ideal. President of Nepal Basketball Association Lama Tendi Sherpa and BernHardt Principal KV Maharjan gave away prizes to the winners. — HNS

Dandi-Biyo tourney

KATHMANDU: Nepal Volleyball Association (NVA) defeated Nepal Billiard, Snooker and Pool Association 164-68 in the first Panther Inter-Association Dandi-Biyo Tournament here on Sunday. Samir Karki of NVA top scored with 54 points. Out of the seven scheduled match, six others could not be played due to the absence of the opponents. Nepal Badminton Association, Nepal International Taekwondo Federation, Nepal Automobiles Sports Association, Cricket Association of Nepal, National Martial Arts Games Committee and Nepal National and Intenational Players Association all earned walkover wins after teams from Gojuryu Karate, Wushu, Hockey, Amateur Athletics, Boxing and Cycling associations did not turn up. — HNS

Bagmati select players

KATHMANDU: Bagmati Zone on Sunday selected 11 men and seven women players for the fifth General Choi Memorial National Taekwondo (ITF) Tournament beginning here on June 14. Bishal Maharjan, Laxman Shrestha, Ram Shrestha, Rajan Maharjan and Dikesh Shahi from Lalitpur, Shiva Kumar Thapa from Kathmandu, Krishna Tamang, Paras Thapa and Sampurna Shrestha from Kavre, Bikash KC from Bhaktapur and Manoj Ghale from Kavre were picked for the men’s competition. The selected players in women’s section are Puja Rajthala from Lalitpur, Alisa Lama, Puja Pujari and Ashma Shrestha from Kathmandu, Sushma KC from Bhaktapur and Srijana Rai from Kavre. — HNS

APF Running Trophy

KATHMANDU: Pashupati Brigade and Armed Police Force (APF) Headquarter teams entered the final of the third APF Running Trophy Volleyball Tournament. Pashupati beat Muktinath Brigade 25-23, 25-20, 25-10, while the Headquarter team defeated Baraha Brigade 25-17, 25-22, 25-19. the final is on Monday. — HNS

Inter-school Basketball

KATHMANDU: Hosts Kathmandu Valley, Campion, Gyan Niketan and Valley Public advanced to the boys’ section semi-finals of the first Kathmandu Valley Inter-school Basketball Tournament. On Sunday, Kathmandu Valley beat Rosebud 52-27 riding on Tenzing Gyalek Sherpa’s 27 points, while Tenzing Sherpa netted 24 as Campion defeated Nalanda 63-53. Gyan Niketan outplayed Nerick 63-36 with Prajjwol Rana scoring 12 points for the winners and Biraj Rana scored 29 in Valley Public’s 61-49 victory over New Summit. In Monday’s girls’ semi-finals, Deep Jyoti will face New Summit, while Valley Public will play against Angel Heart. — HNS

Reliance Basketball

KATHMANDU: Reliance International Academy is organising the Inter-school Basketball Tournament from Monday. In all, eight teams are taking part in the senior boys’ competition. Reliance, NIMS, Riya and Gyan Niketan are in Group A, while Wilson, Unique, Ullens and Sambotta are in Group B. Alpha Nepal Tours and Travel is the sponsor of the six-day event. — HNS

Majhi wins gold

KATHMANDU: Pratima Majhi won the women’s open section gold medal at the first Dr Harka Gurung Memorial and 11th Thamel Nationwide Full Contact Kyokushin Karate Championship here on Sunday. The gold medal winners in the men’s sections were Raju Lama (65kg), Krishna Shrestha (55kg), Sanjay Rai (45kg) and Neeraj Lama (25kg). — HNS
