Departmental teams win

BHAKTAPUR: Departmental teams Nepal Police Club (NPC) and Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club advanced to the semi-finals of the fifth Nationwide Workers’ Cup Volleyball Tournament here on Tuesday. NPC beat Kavre Offset Press 25-16, 25-23, 25-18 while APF got a walkover win from Kathmandu Alfa Beta Institute. After the completion of the league stages, NPC and Kavre Offset Press from Group ‘A’ and APF and ECS Manpower from Group ‘B’ have made it to the last four. — HNS

HWHC, RIBS advance

KATHMANDU: Himalayan White House College (HWHC) and Rhododendron International Boarding School (RIBS) advanced to the quarter-finals of the Weeka Talentia Inter-college Basketball Tournament here on Tuesday. Binod Adhikari scored 34 points as White House trounced Columbus 98-17 while RIBS overcame Xavier International 69-47. In another boys’ section match, Nava Jyoti beat Nagarjuna 51-28 as Paras Baral contributed 20 points for the winners. In the only girls’ section match, Xavier International defeated hosts Don Bosco 20-16. — HNS

Gyan Niketan triumph

KATHMANDU: Hosts Gyan Niketan registered a 67-48 win over Gillette School in the seventh Gyan Niketan Basketball Tournament on Tuesday. In other boys’ matches, Unique beat Nirmal School 40-37, Baba sneaked to a 45-44 victory over Teresa Academy, Grammar School defeated Nalanda School 49-27 and Brihaspati Vidhya sadan overcame Babylon 39-33. — HNS

Karki to leave for the US

KATHMANDU: International referee Kumar Bahadur Karki is leaving for the US on Wednesday to officiate in the 17th US Open Taekwondo Championship. Korean coach and international referee Kwon Yeong Dal, who is in Nepal these days, will also accompany Karki for the February 8-10 event to be held in New Orleans. Karki is also scheduled to participate at the eighth Pumse International Referee Seminar slated for February 22-26 in Bangkok. — HNS
