ACEM thrash HICAST
KATHMANDU:
Advance College of Engineering and Management (ACEM) beat Himalayan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (HICAST) by eight wickets in the Kantipur Running Trophy 2005 Inter Technical College Cricket Tournament, which has been organised by Kantipur Engineering College Students’ Council. Batting first at Lab School ground, HICAST accumulated 103 runs losing five wickets in their allotted 25 overs. Mohammad Husnaid top-scored in the innings with 22 off 50 balls including four hits to the fence.
In reply, Dinesh Yadav scored unbeaten 49 runs as ACEM overcame the target losing two wickets in 16.2 overs. Yadav hit nine fours in his 58-ball unbeaten innings which also earned him the man of the match award. In the other match, Pulchowk Engineering Campus defeated Acme Engineering College by 61 runs. Batting first, Pulchowk Campus posted 214 runs losing nine wickets in 25 overs. Opener Santosh Shrestha scored a quick fire 63 off 54 balls which included nine fours and a six. Shrestha was later named the man of the match. Pravin Niraula hit seven fours in his 34-ball 37, while Sourav Dhakhwa scored 32 off 23 balls including six fours.
In reply, Acme failed to overcome the target and could muster 153 runs losing nine wickets in 25 overs. Saroj Basnet top-scored in the innings with 61 off just 49 balls including eight fours and two sixes, while Sudip Chhetry hit four boundaries in his 45-ball 31. — HNS
Sambotta beat Araniko
KATHMANDU:
Sambotta School beat Araniko School 17-15 in junior boys section match at the fourth Gyan Niketan Inter-school Big Mimi Running Shield Basketball Tournament, here today. Lakpa Sherpa of Sambotta and Sandip Serchan of Araniko scored nine points each.
In other match, Swapna Batika School defeated Reliance School 41-24. Mahesh Raut of Swapna Batika scored 21 points, while Dipesh Malla of Reliance netted 10 points.
In senior boys section, Uddhav Thapa of Suryodaya School top-scored with 11 points but could not save his team from 29-37 loss to Guheshwori School. Chhimmi Lama of Guheshwori scored nine points. In other match, Trungram International Academy thrashed Jagat Mandir 69-20. Yuvaraj Sharma of TIA scored 18 points, while Nuru Sherpa netted 16 points for Jagat Mandir. — HNS
KEC, KU register wins
KATHMANDU:
Gajendra Dangol scored 15 points as Kantipur Engineering College edged out National College of Engineering 38-36 at the Inter Technical College Basketball Championship 2005, which has been organised by Kathmandu Engineering College. Nikesh Dangol scored 10 points for National College. In other matches, Mukund Uprety netted 15 points as Kathmandu University beat Institute of Medicine 51-42; Kathmandu Engineering College ‘A’ thrashed Acme Engineering College 54-15 with Ram Basnet scoring 16 points for the winners; and Bhaskar Ale scored 17 points as Kathmandu Engineering College ‘B’ vanquished Institute of Engineering 58-18. — HNS
