Pokhara, Majdur in final
POKHARA: Pokhara-XI and Majdur Sahid Smriti Club advanced to the final of the 22nd Invitational Knockout Football Tournament here on Thursday. Pokhara edged out Himalayan Sherpa 4-3 in sudden death after a 1-1 stalemate in regular time. Pratap Sainju had scored for Pokhara while Bharat Khawas converted for Himalayan Sherpa. In the other semi-final, Majdur Smriti defeated Dharan Football Club 3-0 with goals from Subin Shrestha, Raj Kumar Ghising and Mani Pandit.
Inter-school football
LALITPUR: St Xavier's School (Godavari) is organising the fourth Father Moran Memorial Inter-school Invitational Football Tournament from December 5-19. A total of 15 teams from 14 Primary schools will participate in the tournament, the organisers said on Thursday. Defending champions Armed Police Force, Learning Realm International, Pushpanjali, Little Angels, Mamata Rani, Dolfin, St Xaviers of Jawalakhel, Machhapuchhre International, Chelsea International, KUHS, DAV, Green Lawn, Rato Bangala and two teams of the organising school are on fay for the championship.
Namuna, Lubhu thru
LALITPUR: Hosts Namuna Secondary School 'A', Lubhu and Mount Olive reached the semi-finals of the sixth Namuna Running Shield Inter-school Volleyball Tournament here on Thursday. Namuna 'A' defeated Ananta in straight sets 25-12, 25-16 while Mount Olive rallied for a 17-25, 25-19, 25-23 win over Heritage. In another match, Lubhu overcame Maha Laxmi 25-7, 25-10.
Valley Public, TIA advance
KATHMANDU: Valley Public and hosts Trungram International Academy (TIA) 'A' advanced to the semi-finals of the seventh TIA Cup Inter-school Basketball Tournament here on Thursday. Valley Public had no trouble defeating Prithvi 60-37 after Biraj Rana and Tshering Dorje Sherpa netted 25 points each. TIA 'A' ended Greenlands run in the tournament with a 49-38 victory. Santosh Shrestha posted 19 points for the hosts. Learning Realm International (LRI) and Golden Peak also made into the last four. LRI cruised with a 54-59 win over Daffodil with Nimesh Rai contributing 17 points. Shankar Lama top scored with 23 points in the match where Golden Peak won 45-22.
Chhetri off to Italy
KATHMANDU: Nepali kick-boxing player Sudip Pundit Chhetri on Thursday left for Italy to participate at the World Olympus Games slated for November 27-29 in Rome. Chhetri will try his luck in the 71kg weight category. Chhetri is also the member of the Nepal Martial Arts Games Committee.
