Valley Public advance
KATHMANDU: Hosts Valley Public School ‘A’ advanced to the senior boys’ section quarter-finals of the fourth Valley Public Inter-school Basketball Tournament with an emphatic 49-21 win over Innovative here on Monday. Rahul Maskey and Chhiring Sherpa netted 15 points each as the hosts entered the last eight as Group A winners. In other boys’ section matches, Valley Public ‘B’ beat Deep Jyoti 50-38 riding on 16 points apiece from Bijay Lama and Nima Sherpa while Milan scored 13 points as Baylor International Academy saw off Bhanubhakta Memorial 30-33. Also, Elim Kids defeated Om Gyan Mandir 28-4 and Greenland dispatched Newton Children Academy 43-14 with Ashish KC and Miraj Dhakal contributing 15 points each. Likewise, Sanghe netted 11 points as Daffodil sneaked past Gauri Shankar 40-35. Meanwhile, Valley Public ‘A’ and Ganesh School won their respective senior girls’ section matches. Valley Public crushed Om Gyan Mandir 35-8 with Samichhin Bista and Laxmi Shrestha contributing 12 points each while Ganesh School saw off Bhanubhakta Memorial 7-2 in a low scoring match. — HNS
Shooting selection
LALITPUR: The final round of shooting selection for the 11th South Asian Games is slated for November 16 and 17 at the Satdobato Shooting Range. Four shooters each in men’s and women’s events will be picked up for the regional games, said the Nepal Shooting Association. The 11th SA Games will be held in Dhaka from January 29 to February 9. — HNS
BSAM defend title
KATHMANDU: Birendra Sainik Awasiya Mahavidhyalaya (BSAM) defended the third TVS Cup Inter-school Invitational Football Tournament title on Monday. BSAM beat Little Angels’ School 2-0 in final. Suresh Nepali scored both the goals for the Army school. Nepali opened the scoring in the 17th minute before adding anothter in the 37th minute. Hari Makaju of Baylor International Academy won the best defender award while Sun Maharjan of Graded English Medium School claimed the best midfielder honour. Teej Prasad Lamshal of SOS Hermann Gmeiner was adjudged the best goalkeeper and Rohan Jung Kunwar of Little Angels was declared the best striker. Roshan Rai of BSAM was named the player of the tournament. The champions received Rs 15,000 and the runners up bagged Rs 10,000. In all, 23 teams took part in the tournament organised by Madhyapur Youth Association. — HNS
Handball selection
POKHARA: Nepal Handball Association selected 16 players for the 11th South Asian Games slated for January 29 to February 9 in Dhaka next year. A three-member Selection Committee headed by coordinator Ratna Man Gurung, Senior coach Jivan Basnet and Jayanta Sharma picked up the players for the final selection. In all, 14 players will be picked up for the SA Games after the final round of selection. Among the selected players are Bishal Nepali, Som Kaji Gurung, Bishal Basnet, Dipen Bista, Sandesh Regmi, Bishnu Raj Giri, Dinesh Bista, Birendra Chand, Dipak Bohara, Padam Nepali, Amar Shrestha, Tara Thapa, Rajendra Hamal, Prakash Rawal, Phuldev Chaudhary and Kodi Lal Chaudhary. — HNS
