Loeseth victorious

VALFURVA: Nina Loeseth became the first Norwegian winner of a women’s World Cup slalom in 16 years, posting the fastest time Tuesday in both runs. Loeseth finished in 1 minute, 57.65 seconds to secure her first victory, beating second-place Sarka Strachova of Czech Republic by 1.12 on the Deborah Compagnoni course. Veronika Velez Zuzulova of Slovakia, who was 13th after the opening run, was third, 1.37 behind. Frida Hansdotter finished fifth and retained the lead in the slalom standings. The Swede also overtook Lindsey Vonn in the overall standings and climbed to second place behind Lara Gut.
