MANCHESTER: Manchester United striker Federico Macheda has signed a new contract with the English champions that commits him to the club until June 2014. Manager Alex Ferguson said on Wednesday that the 18-year-old Macheda’s new four-year deal is in recognition of the “fantastic talent he has.” The Italian scored two match-winning goals as a substitute toward the end of last season. Ferguson says he hopes to see Macheda “develop in the next years so he becomes a well rounded player.” Macheda has made five first-team appearances this season, but has not managed to score.
