Mala, Parbati set title clash

LALITPUR: Mala Rai of Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club and Parbati Giri of Makwanpur have set women's 46kg title clash in the second Nationwide Open Boxing Championships here today.

Mala beat Bishnu Suhang of Jhapa and Parbati dispatched Nisha Gaire of Meghdoot in the semi-finals. In the 48kg semi-final bouts, Suran Muni of Jhapa defeated Nangja Buda and Pramila Pandey APF saw off Sushma Saud of Kanchanpur.

Entering the 51kg final were Bhaya Chaudhary of APF and Rupa Lama of Nepal Youth Boxing. Bhaya overcame Ishwori Bashyal of Kaski and Rupa ousted Sapana Thapa of Kaski in the semi-finals. Nisha Tamang of Nepal Police Club (NPC) beat Sunita Nagarkoti of Meghdoot and Sanju Lama saw off Shilu Dangol of Makwanpur in the 54kg semi-finals.

Arati Thapa of Parsa dispatched Harka Maya Shrestha of Jhapa and Anuradha Lama of NPC eliminated Asha Hamal of Kanchanpur in the 57kg semi-finals. Dipa Chhetri of APF and Pramila Rai of Jhapa have set the championship date in the 60kg category. Dipa defeated Minas Rai of NPC and Pramila overcame Indu Nagarkoti of Meghdoot.

Making it to the final in the men's 48kg category were Hasta Bahadur GM of Dang and Surendra Darlami of Chitwan. Hasta Bahadur beat Laxuman Shilakar of Central Boxing and Surendra dispatched Dhrista Kumar Shahi of Surkhet in the semi-finals.

Others making it to the finals in the men's section were Keshav Gurung of Surkhet and Laxuman Tamang of APF in 51kg, Suman Lama of Makwanpur and Puran Rai of APF in 54kg, Purna Bahadur Lama of APF and Surendra Karki of Tikathali in 57kg, Prakash Basnet of APF and Narendra Maharjan of Boshigaun in 60kg, Bikash Bal Lama of APF and Ratna Bahadur Tamang of NPC in 64kg, Kiran Khadka of Tikathali and Devendra Maharjan of APF in 69kg, Ganesh Ram Chaudhary of APF and Uddhav Khatri of the Army Club in 75kg, Prakash Jora of APF and Dipak Maharjan of Boshigaun in 81kg, and Kailash Rai of Dhading and Mahesh KC of APF in 91kg.
