Manita sets date with Sangita

KATHMANDU: The 10th South Asian Games gold medallist Manita Shahi and Sangita Bashyal set championship dates winning their respective women’s 62kg semi-final bouts during the fourth Korean Ambassador National Taekwondo Tournament here at the National Sports Council covered hall today.

bronze winner Shahi, representing Nepal Police Club (NPC) in the tournament, beat Pratigya Bhandari of Bijeswori Gyan Mandir while Sangita saw off Bini Kaspal of Sallaghari Dojang in the semi-finals.

Advancing to the women’s 57kg final were Lalita Ale of People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and Laxmi Thapa of Bijeswori. Lalita defeated Rita Mukhyakho of The Challenger Dojang and Laxmi beat Usha Nepali of Dang Dojang in the semi-finals. Srijana Khadka of Bijeswori and Laxmi Rana of

the final of the women’s 46kg section. Srijana ousted Dilu

Gurung of Chitwan and Laxmi overcame Manisha Chitrakar of Mahadev Makhan.

Likewise, Kalpana Rana Magar of Bijeswori and Minu Lama of Koreswor Dojang will play for the championship in the women’s 53kg category. Kalpana baet Sushmita Gurung of Chitwan and Minu dispatched Nima Gurung of Chaksikot in the semi-finals. In the women’s 49kg semi-finals, Yam Kumari Chaulagai of Baghdev Dojang defeated

Sarita Tamang of Ratna Nagar

Dojang and Sangita Shrestha of National Taekwondo Training Centre (NTTC) eliminated Rima Anisha of PLA.

Entering the final in the women’s below-67kg section were Rekmaya Gurung of Kaski Dojang and Sanjana Tamang of Layaku. Rekmaya saw off Anita Basnet of Khumrose Dojang and Sanjana got the better of Punam Thapa of Bijeswori in the semi-finals.

Games gold medallist Kushal Shrestha of NPC set championship date with Shankar Karki of Kaski in the men’s 68kg section. Kushal beat Binay Bhandari of Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club and Shankar dispatched Sudhir Shrestha of Butwal in

the semi-finals.

Making it to the final in the men’s 63kg section were Ganesh Bahadur Khadka of NPC and Rohit Tamang of Sallaghari. Ganesh Bahadur overcame Umesh Narayan Sudhakar of Star Dojang while Rohit saw off Pradip Lama of Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC). Entering the final in the men’s 54kg category were Rajendra Shahi of Birgunj and Santosh Pun of Balgram Dojang.

Yam Bahadur Pun of NPC and Sujan Joshi of Sallaghari, meanwhile, cruised to the men’s 58kg section final. Yam Bahadur beat Surendra Chaudhary of Chitwan and Sujan overcame Sujan Pujari of Dhalko Dojang.
