Rai claims Ballantine’s Open

Mithun Rai won the title of the second edition title of the Ballantine’s Open Golf Tournament here at the Royal Nepal Golf Club today.
Played under stableford 3/4 handicap format, the four-handicap amateur golfer Rai accumulated 37 points to claim the trophy of the second edition of the series. Balaram Chaulagain came second on count back after he was tied on 36 points with Madan Rana, SSP Rajendra Shrestha and Shrihar SJB Rana. Chaulagain scored 17 points on the front nine and added 19 on the latter half, while other three golfers earned 18 each on two halves.
Subash Ghising won the gross section title with 33 points and also bagged the most birdies award with four birdies. Pushpa Rai claimed the women’s section trophy on count back after she was tied on 35 points with Kashmira Shah. Rai scored 17 points on the back nine, while Shah earned 15.
Madan Rana won the senior category title with 36 points, while Capt Machidra Bahadur Rai (30) claimed super senior section trophy. Phuntsok Norbu Lama won the longest drive and Yogendra Kumar Rai bagged the closest-to-the-pin awards.
A total of 81 golfers took part in the two-day event. RNGC President Rabindra Man Shrestha, Nepal Golf Association President Tashi Ghale, Senior Marketing Manager of SPG Trading Pvt Ltd Ramesh Ghimire, Thai Ambassador to Nepal Tanskul Bhakavat and RNGC Captain Maj Narendra Kumar Rai handed over the prizes to the winners.
