MMC thrash Rupandehi, enter semis

Defending champions Laxmi Hyundai Manang Marshyangdi Club thrashed Rupandehi-XI 4-0 and advanced to the semi-finals of the second International Invitational Nepal Ice Farwest Khaptad Gold Cup Football Tournament here at the Dhangadhi Stadium today.

Foreign recruit Victor, Bishal Rai and Bimal Rana scored a goal each for MMC, while Rupandehi’s Chhiring Gurung netted an own goal. Victor put MMC ahead in the 19th minute utilising a pass from Anil Gurung.

MMC took a 2-0 lead in the 55th minute when Rupandehi’s Gurung scored into his own goal while trying to clear the ball. MMC, who dominated the field throughout the game, extended the lead in the 83rd minute through Bishal Rai’s goal and Rana added another a minute later to complete the victory. Victor was adjudged the man of the match and he received Rs 10,000.

Rupandehi’s Dilip Chhetri said his side made numerous mistakes in the match. “MMC are a good side and have been putting up good game. However, we conceded the goals due to our own mistakes and failed to utilise our chances,” Chhetri said.

MMC coach Hemant Ale lauded his players’ performance and said the players had good coordination among them throughout the match. “We capitalised on the opponents’ mistakes and converted the opportunities,” said Ale.

MMC will now face TAC in Saturday’s semi-final match and coach Ale said the match would be highly competitive one. Hosts Farwest Sports Club will take on Nepal APF Club in Sunday’s second semi-final match.
