Shrestha-Malla win
KATHMANDU: Nepali players Nabita Shrestha and Amar Lal Malla registered win in the first match of the qualification round at the 2017 World Table Tennis Championships in Dusseldorf, Germany on Monday.
The Nepali pair defeated Mahbub Billah and Maumita Alam of Bangladesh in straight sets of 11-3, 11-4, 11-3. Shrestha-Malla, however, faced a 11-7, 11-5, 11-6 defeat in their second match against Marek Badowski and Klaudia Kusinska of Poland. The another Nepali pair of Shiva Sundar Gothe and Swechchha Nembang faced a 7-11,3-11,8-11 loss at the hands of Dexter St Louis and Rheann Chung of Trinidad and Tobago in the first match.
Likewise, Shrestha and Nembang received a bye in the first match of the women’s doubles category. In women’s singles, Nembang and Shrestha suffered 4-0 defeats against Finalnd and Singapore’ opponents respectively.
In men’s singles, Malla and Gothe faced 4-0 loss against Scotland and Bulgaria players respectively.
