Nagarkoti & team win Pro-Am
Dharan, February 28:
Pro Ramesh Nagarkoti and his team accumulated a total of 149 points to win the Pro-Am event of the Surya Nepal Eastern Open golf tournament here at the Nirvana Country Club today.
Nagarkoti, who scored 38 stableford points after a round of two-under 68, was drawn with amateurs Krishna Rai (38), Birendra Limbu (37) and Patthar Rai (36). The team of local pro Sabin Sapkota, who earned 35 points, was drawn with amateurs Jhuna Rai (39), Dhana Thapa (34) and Kalu Rai (34) to finish second at 139 points. The team of pro Shiva Ram Shrestha (36) and amateurs Prasanna Upreti (33), Sundar Rai (31) and Jai Kumar Rai (36) ended up third.
Pushkar Rajbahak (closest to the pin) and Shankar Man Shakya (longest drive) earned the individual honours. The top three team pros received Rs 4,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively. The amateurs were awarded with trophies.
The top five pro and top 15 amateur scores were put into draw and the highest team total of a pro and three amateurs was declared the winner.
On Friday, Deepak Thapa Magar won the professional event with a total of one-under 139. Sanjay Lama and amateur Suman Rai came joint second at even par 140, while local pro Mani Rai ended up third at five-over 145. Local pros Deo Raj Pakhrin and Sabin Sapkota along with Ramesh Nagarkoti and Krishna Hari Mizar were joint fourth at 144.
Deepak Acharya, Shiva Ram Shrestha and Ram Thapa were tied eighth with the scores of 145, while Rabi Khadka came in 11th at 147. Jaya Ram Shrestha and Surya Sharma finished joint 12th, where as Radhe Shyam Thapa and Pashupati Sharma had made the cut. Suman Rai bagged the amateur section trophy ahead of Jaya Kumar Rai (149) and Dhana Thapa (150).
Out of the total cash prize money of Rs 300,000, winner Thapa Magar received Rs 65,000. Second-placed Sanjay Lama earned Rs 40,000 and Mani Rai earned Rs 32,500.
President of Nepal Professional Golfers’ Association Rabindra Man Shakya, CEO of Nirvana Country Club Sashi Ram Bhandari, SP Rajendra Man Shrestha, Maj Gen Ram Bahadur Gurung and former minister Sailendra Kumar Upadhayaya among others gave away prizes to the winners.
